Released Time Religious Education in Public Schools

At first, I was glad to hear of Bible Release Time offering parents in Union County, Georgia, an opportunity for their children to receive Biblical instruction during school hours. Release Time is a time set aside during the school day when students with parental permission may leave the school to attend off-campus Bible education classes.
Sounds good.
But...

Beware of Bible Release Time After reading about Bible Release Time in the North Georgia News, I emailed the contact persons mentioned in the newspaper article: yohejamesa@gmail.com, gwmeier@windstream.net, cfmadmin@good-steward.org. I read in the North Georgia News of your desire to make Bible education available to public school students. This is good news!
Of course, public schools were founded to teach children to read the Bible. Alas, we have allowed the Bible and prayer to be kicked out of the schools - and we are paying the price: drugs, unwed parents who burden taxpayers with supporting their children instead of providing for their own, laziness (no work ethic), and other unbiblical destructive acts.

Then he wrote me a four-page letter denouncing the book as teaching lies.
This was truly enlightening and got me to wondering about Bible Release Time...
Who is teaching children and what are they teaching?
Do the teachers create doubt and confusion about what children are taught at home and church?
Do children learn Biblical Truth or denominational or ecumenical indoctrination?
Are students taught the true Gospel or a false gospel?
Released Time Religious Education states...
Released Time programs are designed as religious education to
teach the religious beliefs and practices of the religion of the sponsoring
program. Some programs may
also choose to teach specific doctrines or beliefs of a specific church or
denomination. The programs are responsible for selecting curriculum
and implementing the instruction.

Heresy from Hell: Doctrines of Devils
Gary Meier, a
retired HCJB World Radio "missionary," believes doctrines of devils:
Adam was standing beside Eve when she was tempted by the serpent
(feminist theology); and Satan did not appear to Eve in the form of a
snake. The Bible warns us Satan has ministers...
And no marvel;

no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of
righteousness;
It is disturbing this “missionary” was a missionary of doctrines of devils – heresy from hell.

The King James Bible This is not a devilish doctrine, but he devilishly lies about the King James Bible.
I was immediately turned off
by your use of the King James Bible and the accompanying justification
for doing so. The KJV is the most inaccurate, most corrected, and most
revised Bible ever printed. Jesus’ Triumphal Entry or Palm Sunday Meier argues no palm branches were waved by the people during Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
Karen, God’s Word tells us no such thing. Palm branches were neither waved nor were they laid in his path.
Then he argues palm branches are not mentioned in Matthew, Mark or Luke, only in John.
Only John refers to
palm branches and this for a very specific reason. During the Feast of
Tabernacles, branches of the Palm were taken to rejoice before God for
seven days (Lev. 23:40). This is what was happening in Jesus’ entry into
Jerusalem, the people were expressing their joy. It’s inconceivable they
would throw down these symbols of homage to God on the ground for a
donkey to trample. The Devil Deceived Adam and Eve Meier writes:
Two things stand out in the “M” teaching. One day, when Eve was alone, the Devil appeared to her in the form of a snake. The truth is Eve was not alone. Adam was right there at her side during the entire encounter.”
Xmas Does Not Take Christ Out of Christmas Next, Meier writes...
The X story is most interesting. ‘This is why we should never use Xmas instead of Christmas,” you wrote, ‘Xmas crosses out the name of Christ and replaces it with an X. At Christmas, celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The truth is, since X is a symbol for Christ, Christians have been using Xmas for centuries. Using the term Xmas in no way takes Christ out of Christmas.

I’m sorry to hear about your bacterial infection. Those things are no fun. We’ll be praying for you during our devotional periods.
We’re trusting your homes weren’t seriously damaged by Idalia. I know how devastating such things can be. We had a small home in Cape Coral that we sold three weeks before Ian hit.
The new owner had extensive
damage which he has just recently finished repairing. Ian was the deadliest hurricane since Katrina in 2005. I know how those thing can wreak havoc on an area as I was down in Biloxi, Miss within three days of Katrina hitting that state to assist with disaster relief. That was the most difficult week in my lifetime, even after have experiencing difficult times as a Peace Corps Volunteer and many years later as missionaries in Ecuador.
Karen, I’m responding to your email below in red so that my comments are easily distinguishable from your black lettering.
Dear Gary,
I apologize for the delay in responding to your letter. We had to prepare for Hurricane Idalia and then put everything back in order at our house and my mom’s. Also, I have been fighting a bacterial infection caused by antibiotics for a tooth infection.
This will not be a long response because I need to start working on my third book of commentary on Psalm 23. Your book should be interesting since the 23rd. Psalm is the most read, quoted and repeated of all the Psalms.
First, the King James Version is an English translation of the Bible prepared by a special commission of 47 scholars in England under James I, and published in 1611. And for over 500 years, the King James Bible was considered the greatest book in English literature. Those 500 years would mean we are now living in the year 2111. The last time I checked we are living in the year 2023.
The 1937 edition of The Book of Knowledge states:
No book, considered as literature, has had so great an influence on the English-speaking people as the Bible. I don’t believe there is anyone who would argue that the Bible has had such a great influence on English-speaking people. However, the Bible has had an equal influence on people of all languages.
No book has done so much toward molding the English language. I don’t quite understand how the Bible has been instrumental in molding the English language. I’m sure the translations in other languages really didn’t have much to do with molding those languages either. Though in origin it is not an English book at all, it is the greatest book in the English tongue, the one best known and best deserving to be known as literary work. Yes, the Bible is, indeed, the greatest book in the English tongue.
For more than 500 years the Bible has been more popular among English-speaking people than any other book, more read, more listened to, more known than any other writing. For more than 300 years it has set the standard and been the great example of English prose, with effects on our speech that cannot be overestimated. Actually, the Bible has been the most popular book among English-speaking people for 641 years since John Wylcliffe translated the first English Bible in 1382.
What is it in this book that has given it such a lasting influence on our literature, an influence far more powerful than any it has had on other languages? That’s obvious Karen, because it is God’s Word (2 Tim. 3:16).
An important fact is that Hebrew, the language of the Old Testament, is very simple, with clear pictures readily understood and conveying their meaning in plain words that represent common objects, even when the thought is most poetical and beautiful. “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.” What could be simpler, or more tender and consoling? “A thousand years in Thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.” What could be grander and more impressive?
As for the 47 translators of the Authorized Version, or King James Version, The Book of Knowledge states:
Any set of men with special knowledge are inclined to create a formal language for themselves that does not readily give up its meaning to plain people. It is so with philosophy, religion, the law, medicine, education and most of all with science. There is a pretense that these dignified subjects cannot be discussed in plain speech, and so a special jargon is invented for each learned set, and in no instance does the jargon become literature. This special formal language has to be shed before any piece of prose can be read with pleasure for its own sake. How fortunate it was then that, from the first, there was a book in the language of the people, plain, strong, full, with a natural music in it, and that book one with an extraordinary variety of expression, rich in interest, and exhaustless in meaning. Theology, which is the “science of religion,” the word “theology” is a combination of two words, theos meaning God and ology which comes from the Greek word logos, meaning “word”. The word “ology” is a branch of learning something, or the study of a certain topic, its subject being defined by the first part of the word: Biology becomes the study of living organisms, Psychology is the study of man’s mental processes and its behaviors and Zoology deals with animals and animal life. Therefore, theology is NOT the science of religion, it is the study of God. swiftly hid its meaning in a clumsy jargon from which it has never escaped, but the Bible is clear, simple and beautiful. That too, is certainly true. Most Bibles available today including my ESV version fits that description perfectly. And this purity in language and style, drawn from common English speech, has been influencing sincere writers ever since.
In the world’s treasure-house of literature the share of space for the English tongue is generous; but in all that wide space the rarest gem is the translation of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian New Testament given to us by forty-seven studious men, not one of whom wrote anything remarkable on his own account. That’s simply not true, those 47 did write many things on their own account using the process called interpolation. In their efforts to make Scripture more clear and understandable, and to fit their idea of what the Bible should say, KJV translators added their own additional words, verses and passages scores of times, most of the time changing the meaning in the process.
The 47 translators were dedicated to the faithfulness of the text. Literary elegance was not a criterion in translating; but truth and accuracy. The translators of the King James Version did not plan the eloquence: it was inspired by the Holy Spirit. Since it’s abundantly clear you didn’t read my essay containing fact after fact after fact about the inadequacies of the KJV, I must iterate once again a most salient point. The KJV translators had only Erasmus’s Greek New Testament from which to translate the New Testament. He had only six inferior Greek manuscripts available at the time, many centuries removed from the original documents. Today, because of the discovery of thousands of ancient biblical manuscripts, we have available documents that more closely approximate the original writing of the biblical authors. That means all of today’s Dynamic and Formal Equivalence translations are much more accurate than the KJV. That version is the most inaccurate, most corrected (more than 75,000 times over the years) and most revised (a total of six times) of any Bible ever printed. Both my letter and the included essay iterated the problems associated with the documents the KJV translators used to compile that version. Because of these things, “truth and accuracy” are sorely missing in this version of the Bible. No serious student of the Bible would use the KJV.

Second, palm branches were not waved? Why do you think we celebrate Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday is nothing but another tradition of man without any biblical basis, this celebration being no different that those invented by the Pharasees. Scripture is clear... Again, it’s apparent you didn’t read my essay on Palm branches. There is no clarity to Scripture in this case. There is nowhere that the Bible says Palm branches were waved nor that they were strewn in his path. Period! Where in your four biblical verses cited below does it say the people waved Palm branches and laid them in his path? There isn’t. You can search Scripture till you’re blue in the face and you won’t find such a thing.

suppose her inferior to Adam in knowledge, and strength, and presence of
mind. Some think Eve received the command, not immediately from God, but
at second hand by her husband, and therefore might the more easily be
persuaded to discredit it. 2. It was his policy to enter into discourse
with her when she was alone. Had she kept close to the side out of which
she was lately taken, she would not have been so much exposed. There are
many temptations, to which solitude gives great advantage; but the
communion of saints contributes much to their strength and safety. 3. He
took advantage by finding her near the forbidden tree, and probably
gazing upon the fruit of it, only to satisfy her curiosity. Those that

Fourth, of course the serpent was the devil. No other animal in the Garden tempted Eve. No one would ever argue with you about this.
That old serpent - This doubtless refers to the serpent that deceived Eve (Genesis 3:1-11; Revelation 20:2; compare the notes on 2 Corinthians 11:3); and this passage may be adduced as a proof that the real tempter of Eve was the devil, who assumed the form of a serpent. So what are you trying to prove, the Bible is quite clear the Devil was a serpent. It’s quite apparent you completely missed the point of my letter. I was referring to the statement in your book, “the Devil appeared to her in the form of a snake”. This is completely untrue. THE DEVIL AT THAT TIME APPEARED TO HER IN THE FORM OF A “BEAST OF THE FIELD” (Gen.3:1) The Devil didn’t take the form of a snake until 13 verses later when God “said to the serpent”, because of your actions “on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life” (v. 14).
Karen, the bottom line is this. As I specifically stated in my letter, it is incumbent on us as Christians to NOT be careless in our use of Holy Scripture. A snake appearing to Adam and Eve, waving and strewing palm branches and family and friends of Jesus to rolling the stone in front of the grave are NOT taught in the Bible and should NOT be taught to our vulnerable children.

I don’t recall including any information about what the ACLC “is all about” in my letter.” Nor do I remember including any such information in the packet I sent you. Perhaps you could explain your comment.
I can’t recall if I have previously sent you any information via email so I have attached two documents to make sure you are totally aware of what the ACLC is all about.
Finally, since you didn’t read any of the documents (including some short stories I wrote) in with the letter I sent, I won’t further pursue your opinion about publishing a book of short stories from the mission field.

Regarding palm branches.
Matthew Henry explains John 12:13... (1.) That they had palms in their hands, and so had these branches of palm-trees. The palm-tree has ever been an emblem of victory and triumph; Cicero calls one that had won many prizes plurimarum palmarum homo—a man of many palms. Christ was now by his death to conquer principalities and powers, and therefore it was fit that he should have the victor's palm borne before him; though he was but girding on the harness, yet he could boast as though he had put it off. But this was not all; the carrying of palm-branches was part of the ceremony of the feast of tabernacles (Lev. 23:40; Neh. 8:15), and their using this expression of joy in the welcome given to our Lord Jesus intimates that all the feasts pointed at his gospel, had their accomplishment in it, and particularly that of the feast of tabernacles, Zec. 14:16.

No argument here. Palm branches were indeed important in the culture during Jesus’ time on earth. I emphasized that in the essay I sent you: “One of the Jews' most sacred celebrations was the Feast of Tabernacles. During this time, branches of palm trees were taken to rejoice before God for seven days (Lev. 23:40). The same thing was happening in Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem story, the people were signifying their joy during this occasion by taking branches of the palm tree in their hand. Palm branches are also found in Rev. 7:9. John saw a great multitude that couldn’t be numbered and from every place on the globe, standing before the throne and before the lamb with palm branches in their hands. In each of these illustrations, three important facts stand out. First, the palm branches in the hands signify praise and homage to God. Compare that to throwing the Palms on the ground to be trampled by a donkey. These people were saluting a king. Second, the palm branches were held in the hand, not waved. And third, in each case, joy and joyfulness were the themes and intentions of the gathering.”
Any astute person reading the commentary you sent is able to ascertain that nowhere is it suggested “they waved palm branches or lay them in his path” as you stated in your book. This is not a biblical teaching, it’s something you made up.
Karen, it’s clearly evident you depend heavily on commentaries and stuff you find on the internet. I would suggest you instead depend on the Holy Spirit for your insight into biblical truth. The Bible teaches us to do this: “the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things” (John 14:26). Also, “the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you” (1 John 2:27). And, “when the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth” (John 16:12). It’s the truth of God’s Word that we seek and it’s this same Word that we teach. It is imperative we are not careless with the Word as I have pointed out in my correspondence with you.

The English Standard Version
is an updated version of the Revised Standard of the National Council of
Churches. The NCC has never been a Christian organization but is a
Socialist organization like the World Council of Churches. When you
purchase an ESV, you are helping fund the NCC which is another enemy of
Christ and true Christians. You will see that the ESV is just another
rewrite of the corrupted manuscripts which underlie every other modern
false version. You will also see that the ESV, like

have absolute agreement with the Roman Catholic New American Bible and
the Jehovah’s Witness New World Translation. Therefore...
We’re not like-minded and you’re not interested in Biblical Truth. I am a born-again Christian who is led by the Holy Spirit into all Truth through the study of His Word. And there is nothing wrong with studying or quoting secondary sources (including commentaries) written by Godly men. It is no different from listening to a sermon by a pastor. If a commentator is wrong about something, the Holy Spirit will give me discernment. And you are just parroting heretical beliefs of the heretics you follow.
Just as I will be held accountable before the Judgment Seat of Christ if I lead others away from the true Gospel, you will also be held accountable for trying to create doubt and confusion in my mind – and others.

Dynamic texts are rendered into the target language using words and structures that make more sense to their audience than a word for word translation. The vocabulary, grammar structure and idioms of the source text will not be preserved.
The translators of these “Bibles” were not God-fearing men inspired by the Holy Spirit. They were apostate men inspired by their own imagination to pervert the Gospel.

I wrote “they waved palm branches.” The word “wave” expresses movement. It means to move up or down or side to side in the air. It is also a gesture of greeting, such as the wave of the hand - or wave of a palm branch.
Remember it was a joyous procession, and the people saluted Jesus as King of Israel. The crowd was filled with Messianic expectation! It would be unnatural and unreasonable that joyful people greeting Jesus as King of Israel held palm branches rigidly and unexcitedly while shouting...

Genesis 3:17-19 states...

of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of

Note, it does not say, “because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of the serpent.” The Bible expressly says, “because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife.”
And 1 Timothy 2:11-14 explains...

It does not say Adam and Eve were both deceived by the serpent. It says, “Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.”
And Meier continues his heresy...

But Genesis 3:1 states in the KJB and ESV and NASB the serpent was more subtle, crafty, cunning than “any beast of the field.”...

There is undisputed eloquence and beauty in the King James Version. Moreover, the English language was at its zenith in the early 17th century for poetic beauty and eloquence. Interestingly, one of the major criticisms of the King James Version is actually a strength. People unacquainted with proper English complain about the use of "thee" and "thou" etc. in the King James text.
However, as anyone who knows linguistics will attest, many languages have at one time had a common level which was spoken on the street and a higher or formal level that was used in reference to royalty and God. The usage of "thee" and "thou" etc. in old English is a form of higher English that no longer is commonly used. It originally was used in formal situations where deference and respect to nobility, royalty and Deity were appropriate.
Unfortunately, our contemporary American English usage of "you" and "yours" etc. makes no allowance for such deference and brings all of our language back to the lower level. The King James Version respectfully and appropriately refers to God and other notables as "thee" or "thou" in accordance with their due respect.
