It's Swaggart, not Swagger.  However, the Swaggarts do swagger about on SBN in arrogance and pride and insolence.

 

More important, doesn't this photo shock you?  Is this Christian conduct?  Should FWC singers have a bachelorette party in a bar?  Should FWC singers be signing 6 for 666?   

Finally, other pastors and churches are beginning to see the light about the Swaggarts...don't be left behind in spiritual darkness. The Swaggarts are hypocrites. 

Jesus warns us:  "Beware of false prophets..."

Karen, I would appreciate you not send this information to me anymore.  "Speak evil of no one."  If in need to know something, I am capable of finding it out for myself.

 

And here is my reply:

 

Dear Mr. Allen,

 

I will honor your request and no longer warn you about the Swaggarts' false teachings and hypocrisy. But this has nothing to do with "Speak evil of no man" (Titus 3:2).  You take this Scripture out of context.  As you know, the Bible is a covenant and we must look to the four corners of the covenant to know the intent of each verse. 

 

Titus 3:2 must be interpreted in the light of the entire Book.  And Titus 1 warns us: 

 

10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.
13 ...Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith.

 

And Titus 2:15 admonishes us:  "These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority.  Let no man despise thee."

 

When Titus says, "Speak evil of no man," it means not to falsely accuse others and don't be malicious.  It does not mean don't warn others about false prophets.  Even Jesus warns us to beware of false prophets...

 

Matthew 7:15,16

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits.

 

Mark 12:38 – 40

38 Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,

39 And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:

40 Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.

  

And the disciples repeatedly warn us to beware of false prophets...

 

1 John 4:1

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

 

1 Corinthians 2:14 - 16

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

 

2 Corinthians 11: 13 - 15

13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

 

The Apostle Peter warns us to beware of false prophets in 2 Peter 2: 1-3

 

1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

 

Finally, Jesus publicly exposed the hypocrisy of the Pharisees...

 

Luke 12:1, 56, 57

 

1 …Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?

57 Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?

 

Mr. Allen, you must interpret Scriptures in the context of the Book and the entire Bible:

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:15).

 

The learned Matthew Henry comments:

 

Study to show thyself such a one, a workman that needs not be ashamed. Ministers must be workmen; they have work to do, and they must take pains in it. Workmen that are unskilful, or unfaithful, or lazy, have need to be ashamed; but those who mind their business, and keep to their work, are workmen that need not be ashamed. And what is their work? It is rightly to divide the word of truth. Not to invent a new gospel, but rightly to divide the gospel that is committed to their trust. To speak terror to those to whom terror belongs, comfort to whom comfort; to give every one his portion in due season, Mt. 24:45. Observe here, 1. The word which ministers preach is the word of truth, for the author of it is the God of truth. 2. Incidentally, I addressed Allen as "Mr." instead of "Rev." because he turns a blind eye to evil and does not rightly divide the Truth.  He is not “Reverend” because he does not deserve reverence.

 

Sadly, these ministers are willfully ignorant of God’s Law.  They need to be ashamed. They are false ministers.

 

Know the Law

 

Statutes and laws and rules govern society.  To illustrate, parents have rules that govern their household.  This is family government.  In true Christian homes, God’s Law – the Bible – governs the household.  “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).

 

And civil government regulates our communities and nation in the best interests of society.  Unfortunately, overturning laws and statutes grounded in Scriptural law is destroying our nation. 

 

The point is that laws restraining license govern us because license results in social chaos.  But modern society demands license instead of liberty.  License is freedom from rules; it is abuse of freedom. And liberty is freedom to act within the law. 

 

Concerning Christianity, liberty is being made free from sin to serve Christ:

 

But now being made free from sin, 

and become servants to God,

ye have your fruit unto holiness, 

and the end everlasting life.

Romans 6:22

 

Christianity is not freedom from God’s Law.

It’s freedom from sin!

 

Obedience to God’s Law is not legalism!

Obeying God’s Law is holiness and righteousness!

 

However, modern “Christians” demand license.  They want to be free from God’s Law and condemnation.  They don’t want God to judge them, and they don’t want to be judged by God’s Law: “We’re not supposed to judge.” But this is contrary to God’s Law.

 

The truth is we must be diligent students of God’s Law because the saints shall judge the world.  And how can we judge if we don’t know the Law?

 

In fact, Paul reproves the Corinthians in his first letter in 6:2, 3…

 

Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? 

and if the world shall be judged by you,

are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

 

Know ye not that we shall judge angels? 

how much more things that pertain to this life?

 

Paul is reproving the Corinthians for their lack of wisdom to judge small matters in the church.  In other words, if you can’t judge small matters, you’re unworthy to judge the world and judge fallen angels!

 

Saints shall judge the world!  Now how can saints judge the world if we don’t know God’s Law?  That is why we must be diligent students of the only authoritative law – the Bible. The Bible is authoritative law that governs the body of Christ.  In other words, God’s Law governs the body of Christ, including discipline.  And in plain language, Paul declares the authority for judging and church discipline:

 

But now I have written unto you not to keep company,

if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, 

or covetous,

or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner;

with such an one no not to eat.

 

For what have I to do to judge them also that

are without? Do not ye judge them that are within?

 

But them that are without God judgeth.  

Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

1 Corinthians 5:11-13

Clearly, Paul is declaring the church has the authority and jurisdiction to judge and discipline professing Christians in the church.  To repeat, obeying God’s Law is not legalism!  It’s holiness and righteousness!  Paul commands us: “Put away from among yourselves that wicked person.”

On the other hand, Paul explains the church does not have the authority or jurisdiction to discipline sinners outside the church.  God judges or disciplines them.  But the sinful conduct of professing Christian brothers and sisters is within the authority and jurisdiction of the church.

Of course, if sinners break man’s law, a civil or criminal court will judge them. 

Specifically, Biblical law pronounces that unrepentant sinners in the congregation are to be disciplined by excommunication.  Just as in the Old Testament, lepers were declared unclean and must be cast outside the camp; the New Testament declares sin is spiritual leprosy and the unclean must be cast outside the body of Christ.  (See “Unclean! Irrefutably, Biblical Law commands us to separate from any brother who is a fornicator, covetous, idolater, railer, drunkard, extortioner and other sins that evidence uncleanness and unholy living.  The unclean corrupt the body of Christ.

Of course, this is contrary to the modern church that invites the unclean into the church body without repentance to increase church membership. And modern Christians are ignorant it is the calling of the evangelist to go out among the sinners and call them to repentance before welcoming them into the body of Christ.

Wicked persons corrupt the body of Christ, therefore, Paul commands: “ Put away from among yourselves that wicked person.”  The purpose of excommunication is to bring the sinner to repentance and the saving of his soul.

So, does this apply to ministers?  Of course it does!  Jesus never instructed us to turn a blind eye to false prophets – false preachers.  Ministers who preach the Gospel but live a wicked life are false preachers – false prophets!

 

In fact, Jesus warns us in Matthew 7:15 – 20 to beware of false preachers…

 

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits.  Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

 

Good fruit is holy and righteous living.  Good fruit is not good works.  Preaching and teaching the Word, singing gospel songs, writing religious books, broadcasting religious programs, and other good works are not evidence of a true preacher.  And to make this very clear, Jesus continues…

 

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name?  and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

 

In plain language, Jesus warns that good works will not save us:  “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

 

This is very important:  preaching and teaching and other “wonderful” works will not save anyone, including preachers.  We must live a righteous and holy life.

But the modern church calls strict obedience to God’s Law “legalism.”  They replace obedience with good works:  giving money to various social organizations, attending church, paying tithes, watching Christian TV, and so forth. And modern preachers like Swaggart falsely preach that the Message of the Cross is that we are under Grace without repentance: we can continue in our sins.  This is a lie!

 

Don’t listen to false preachers! Listen to the Voice of the Lord: “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits.” 

 

Evil fruits evidence an evil heart…

 

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts,

adulteries, fornications, murders,

Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness,

an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

All these things come from within, and defile the man.

Mark 7:21,22  

 

Again, Jesus warns us to beware of false preachers and tells us how we can know them…by their evil fruits - an unclean spirit.

 

Matthew Henry comments on Jesus’ teaching:

 

Those are not taught nor sent of the holy God, whose lives evidence that they are led by the unclean spirit. God puts the treasure into earthen vessels, but not into such corrupt vessels: they may declare God’s statutes, but what have they to do with them?

…

 

Note, a man may be a preacher, may have gifts for the ministry, and an external call to it, and perhaps some success in it, and yet be a wicked man; may help others to heaven, and yet come short himself.

…

 

Note, it is possible for men to have a great name for piety, and yet to be workers of iniquity; and those that are so will receive the greater damnation.

 

 

Judging Jimmy Swaggart: Evil Fruits

 

Irrefutably, God’s Law gives us the authority and duty to judge sinners in the church, including false preachers. So, let’s look at some of Swaggart’s evil fruits…

 

1. Adultery

 

But I say unto you,

That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her

 hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. 

Matthew 5:28

 

Swaggart committed acts of adultery by a-whoring after pornography and prostitutes and refuses to repent. In 1985, before his fall, Swaggart wrote Rape of a Nation openly condemning pornography.  O ye hypocrite!

 

And he also attacked prostitution and those who sought the service of prostitutes – whoremongers.  And he campaigned for censorship of pornography – books, films, television programs – and the public display of filth. O ye hypocrite!

 

After his hypocrisy was exposed in 1988, he desperately tried to save his ministry by publicly repenting of his sin.  He proclaimed, “I don’t plan to whitewash my sin.  I don’t call it a ‘mistake.’ I call it a ‘sin’…I have no one to blame but myself.”  Unfortunately, it was false repentance. 

 

Today he calls his sin “mistakes.”  And his wife, Frances, calls lusting after pornography “a powerful addiction.”

 

Woe unto you, Jimmy and Frances Swaggart! O ye hypocrites!

 

2.  Fornication

 

 

Be not deceived: neither fornicators, 

nor …shall inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 6:9, 10

 

Swaggart’s 1988 public repentance was false…he was caught with prostitutes afterward. 

 

On October 11, 1991, Swaggart was found in the company of a prostitute, Rosemary Garcia, when he was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol in Indio, California, for driving on the wrong side of the road.  According to Garcia, Swaggart stopped to proposition her on the side of the road.  When the patrolman asked Garcia why she was with Swaggart, she replied: “He asked me for sex. I mean, that’s why he stopped me.  That’s what I do.  I’m a prostitute.”

 

Rather than confessing and repenting, Swaggart told Family Worship Center: “The Lord told me it’s flat none of your business.”

 

3. Theft of Intellectual Property

 

Thou shalt not steal.

Exodus 20:15

 

Swaggart stole and used the ideas and writings of theologian Finis Dake as his own. In other words, Swaggart plagiarized Dake's writings and pretended they were his own ideas.  Dake’s heirs sued Swaggart for plagiarizing their father’s material.

Listen closely: Swaggart argues that Dake was the greatest theologian that ever lived even though Dake confessed and was convicted of transporting underage girls across state lines for immoral acts!   

 

 In 1937, he was convicted of violating the Mann Act by willfully transporting 16-year-old Emma Barelli across the Wisconsin state line “for the purpose of debauchery and other immoral practices.” The May 27, 1936, issue of the Chicago Daily Tribune reported that Dake registered at hotels in Waukegan, Bloomington, and East St. Louis with the girl under the name "Christian Anderson and wife". In order to avoid a jury trial and the possibility of being sentenced to a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of $10,000, Dake pled guilty. Subsequently, he served six months in the House of Corrections in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.^[1] Though he maintained his innocence of intent, his ordination with the Assemblies of God was revoked and he later joined the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee). 4.  Wickedness

 

Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness,

covetousness, maliciousness:

Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which

commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same,

but have pleasure in them that do them.

Romans 1:29, 32

 

While Swaggart was committing adultery with whores, he hypocritically pointed his finger at Marvin Gorman and Jim Bakker condemning and exposing their adultery. He did this with malice and mischief in his evil heart, not to bring them to repentance. Gorman and Bakker were ministry rivals. So, Swaggart methodically set out to destroy his competition.

 

5. Deceit

 

For such are false apostles,

deceitful workers,

transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

 

And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

 

Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be

transformed as the ministers of righteousness;

whose end shall be according to their works.

2 Corinthians 11:13 - 15

 

Matthew Henry defines deceit as “wickedness covered and disguised, that it may be the more securely and effectually committed.”

 

Swaggart covers and disguises his wickedness with good works (writing religious books, preaching, singing gospel songs, long prayers, and so forth) to deceive many.

 

Moreover, he handles the word deceitfully. For example, The Expositor’s Study Bible begins with the lie of the Gap Theory and continues with other false teachings.  (See “The Gap Theory is a Lie: @

6. Lasciviousness

 

I shall bewail many which have sinned already,

and have not repented

of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness

 which they have committed.

2 Corinthians 12:21

 

Swaggart refuses to repent of lasciviousness – the filthiness of pornography.

 

Former Family Worship Center singer Tareva Henderson alleges the Swaggarts go to Las Vegas.  Why is Swaggart or any preacher going to "Sin City"?  Las Vegas is known as Sin City for a reason: strip clubs, escort services, swingers' clubs, and other adult entertainment…

The sexy, the naughty — this is the most potent incarnation of Vegas so far," says former professional gambler Anthony Curtis, publisher of LasVegasAdvisor.com, citing an explosion of escort services, topless shows, massage parlors and "gentlemen's clubs" in a place that made its name on gambling and then tried a brief, not-so-successful stint as a family destination that ended about 2001.

Swaggart has been caught with prostitutes, so why would he run to a city known for adult entertainment instead of run from a city of open temptation?  Flee temptation!

 

7. Pride

 

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh,

and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life,

is not of the Father, but is of the world.

1 John 2:16

 

Swaggart refuses correction and reproof.  He is arrogant.

 

Swaggart arrogantly believes he just has to preach the Gospel; he doesn’t have to live the Gospel! 

 

A man who preaches the Gospel and commits sin is a wicked hypocrite! 

 

Be doers of the Word, not preachers only.

 

Again, rather than confessing and repenting, Swaggart is puffed up: “The Lord told me it’s flat none of your business.”

 

8. Lying Tongue/False Prophecy

 

For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name:

I have not sent them,

saith the Lord.

Jeremiah 29:9

 

Swaggart claims he has been in the spirit at least 3 times to King David's "inauguration" (crowning).

 

And he claims that God physically locked him in his car and spoke to him, telling him that he was the only evangelist called to spread the Gospel.

 

And Swaggart claims that God gave him the greatest revelation about the message of the Cross given to man since the Apostle Paul!

 

And Swaggart claims God said his new ministry will be the greatest ministry in history since Jesus' ministry!

 

And Swaggart claims that God told him as a result of the Sonlife Broadcasting Network being aired in England, that nation will experience a great revival.

 

9. Covetousness and Greed

 

Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Matthew 6:24

 

Jimmy Swaggart begs, “Give, give, give!”  Jimmy Swaggart Ministries (JSM) begs morning, noon, and night for more and more and more money. 

 

Sadly, many give money that don’t have the basic necessities.  And they are ignorant the Swaggarts live a lavish lifestyle off the tithes and offerings: mansions, trips to Vegas to buy Frances $2000 handbags, plastic surgery, etc. 

 

His watchmen are blind:

they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark;

sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.

 

Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough,

and they are shepherds that cannot understand:

they all look to their own way,

every one for his own gain,

from his quarter.

Isaiah 56:10, 11

 

The Swaggarts are greedy dogs.  They can never have enough.

 

 

10.  Extortion

 

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!  for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

 

Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter,

that the outside of them may be clean also.

 

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!  for ye are like unto whited sepulchers, which indeed appear  beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.

 

Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men,

 but within are ye full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

 

Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

Matthew 23:25-28,33

 

Jimmy Swaggart tells viewers that by giving to Jimmy Swaggart Ministries they show their love for God.  In other words, if you don’t send JSM money, then you don’t love God.  He uses his self-exalted position to obtain property and money he is not entitled to for his lavish lifestyle and to build his empire to compete with other televangelists.

 

Furthermore, during the Family Worship Center service, the Swaggarts force their congregation to march down the aisle to the “stage” and drop their tithes and offerings into a very large box.  This is intimidation!

 

11.  False Teaching & False Preaching

 

But there be some that trouble you,

and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

 

But though we, or an angel from heaven,

preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have

preached unto you, let him be accursed.

 

As we said before, so say I now again,

If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received,

let him be accursed.

 

Galatians 1:7, 8

 

Swaggart’s The Expositor’s Study Bible is filled with the false teaching of Finis Dake and Swaggart’s own perverse interpretation.  Moreover, Swaggart has his comments printed in red to give them equal authority with the words of Christ!

 

In other words, Swaggart preaches a false gospel of truth mixed with lies. He handles the Word of God deceitfully. Swaggart preaches a corrupt gospel. 

 

 Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

1 Corinthians 5:6

 

12. Sacrilege in the Sanctuary

 

Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things:

they have put no difference between the holy and profane,

neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean,

and have hid their eyes from my Sabbaths,

and I am profaned among them.

Ezekiel 22:26

 

Swaggart has condemned contemporary Christian music for years.  But now Family Worship Center hires saloon singers and rock musicians!  Listen to what former FWC singer Allison Collins Rhys says about Christian music:

Collins never missed the smoke or the bars—she doesn’t drink—but after five years with Swaggart, she missed those nights getting loud and groovy with her favorite songs.

Collins and her husband left Jimmy Swaggart Ministries last year. For her, being a believer and an artist presents unique challenges, especially when her musical taste runs counter to a lot of mainstream Christian music.

“I don’t want to be labeled as a Christian artist because Christian music sucks,” Collins says. “I’m being blunt, but everything sounds the same, and you have a lot of Christian artists influenced only by other Christian artists. So, great Christians like Fanny Crosby, John and Charles Wesley, Martin Luther, Ira Stanphill, and other Christian musicians have not influenced Collins.  She's  influenced by worldly musicians:  the Stones, the Beatles, Blind Faith. 

Swaggart hires saloon singers and rock musicians who despise sacred Christian music and want to sing worldly “Christian” music!  

Swaggart has violated God's law, and has profaned His holy things.  By hiring saloon singers and rock musicians, JSM has "put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean."

And other evil fruits…  

 

A Call to True Repentance

 

 

 

Jesus warns us to beware of false preachers…  

  Beware of false prophets,  

which come to you in sheep's clothing,  

but inwardly they are ravening wolves.  

Ye shall know them by their fruits. 

 

Irrefutably, Swaggart’s evil fruits are overwhelming evidence that his tearful confession on February 21, 1988, was false repentance: “Ye shall know them by their fruits.”

   

And Swaggart’s evil fruits are adultery, fornication, theft of intellectual property, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, pride, lying tongue/false prophecy, covetousness and greed, extortion, false teaching and false preaching, sacrilege in the sanctuary, and other abominations.

 

Today he must repent of his sin and bring forth good fruits showing true repentance.  Words alone are not enough. The fruits of holiness and righteousness evidence true repentance.  This is not legalism. This is the Law of the Lord.  

 

Jesus makes it very clear that in spite of  good works, preachers who live in sin are not one of His. Therefore, unless Jimmy Swaggart repents, Jesus will profess unto him: "I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

 

  Ye shall know them by their fruits.
