The Jimmy Swaggart Series Part 3
Jimmy Swaggart, O Ye Hypocrite!
by Karen
Pansler-Lam, J.D.
Jimmy
Swaggart is the biggest televangelist hypocrite.
Years ago, Swaggart denounced contemporary Christian music
as entertainment… Watch
the following short video on Youtube…
NOTE: Curiously, the above video was pulled off Youtube within days after the the publication of this message... Who do you think was behind it?
In
this video, years
ago, Jimmy Swaggart preached during a crusade… “There
is no such thing as Christian entertainment.” “Hardcore
contemporary Christian music strives to make Christ acceptable to man, rather than man acceptable to Christ. It attempts to lower the Lord Jesus to mankind’s basest level rather than elevating man to Jesus’ level. It is not of God.”
So,
have you seen
Swaggart’s SonLife Broadcasting Network (SBN) lately? Minimal
worship...lots of mediocre contemporary
Christian entertainment. Randy
Knaps screams
his songs… And there's
the saxophone player who
plays
Christian jazz… And
there's the drummer who makes noise…
And
there's the electric guitar player whose style is rock
... This
is not anointed worship...it's pop/rock
“Christian” entertainment to expand
Swaggart's
music business. Jimmy
Swaggart said in the above video:
“There is no such thing as Christian entertainment.”
Now watch these JSM music performances on Youtube…
1)
Randy Knaps - "Don't You Wanna Go" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVadBGqvxV8&feature=related
2) Boo Pourciau, Randy Knaps - "He'll Calm Your Storms" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGy5RaWOxpQ&NR=1
3) Boo Pourciau, Drum Solo - Family Worship Center (FWC) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DltaDglAy28&feature=related This
is entertainment, not anointed worship. This
is music in the flesh, not the spirit. This music glorifies man, not God.
Jimmy
Swaggart condemned contemporary Christian music as entertainment
for years... and now he's promoting it! Jimmy
Swaggart...O ye hypocrite! Swaggart
was a hypocrite when denouncing “whores” and “whoremongers”
and at the same time he was a-whoring after pornography and
prostitutes! Likewise
he is a hypocrite denouncing contemporary Christian music as entertainment
and at the same time he is a-whoring after worldly music -
“Christian” jazz, rock, and other popular music to please man, not
God. Swaggart’s hypocrisy is a perfect example of Matthew 7:
1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then thou shalt see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
Specifically,
Jimmy Swaggart condemns contemporary Christian music as worldly, yet
JSM’s music is worldly - “Christian” jazz, rock, and other popular
music to please the carnal spirit of revelry.
It is his marketing strategy to enlarge his viewing audience and
increase sales of JSM merchandise on SBN – the Jimmy Swaggart shopping
network. And
his wife Frances also denounces Christian entertainment on her SBN program
Frances and Friends. O
ye hypocrite, Frances Swaggart! Specifically,
Jimmy Swaggart Ministries denounces the modern church and at the
same time they are the modern church!
For example, they have replaced gospel music with pop/rock
contemporary music; casual dress on Wednesday nights (Jimmy wears no
necktie, Frances wears slacks, etc.) and other signs of the transition of
the modern church into a secular church. And
yet they point the finger of shame at others!
JSM, shame on you! O ye hypocrites! Vain
Repetitions
But
when ye pray, use
not vain repetitions, as
the heathen do; for
they think they shall be heard for
their much speaking. Matthew
6:7 Recently,
during the Family Worship Center Sunday service, a female soloist sang a
trite, repetitive song about a river.
The same words were repeated over and over and over and over and
over again… The
vain repetition of words is just as wrong in music worship as prayer: “use
not vain repetitions, as the heathen do.”
The vain repetition of words is not a moving of the Holy
Spirit; it is a moving of the carnal spirit. But false worship leaders
pretend singing the same words over and over and over and over again is
pleasing to God. On the
contrary, Jesus commands us: “use not vain
repetitions, as the heathen do.” The
heathen use chants – the vain repetition of words. For example, Baal’s
priests chanted from morning until noon vain repetitions:
“O Baal, hear us; O Baal, hear us, O Baal, hear us…”
And many of the contemporary “Christian” songs are
“Christian” chants – a vain repetition of words. Admittedly,
there are times when the Spirit moves us to repeat a song, but the vain
repetition of the same words over and over and over again just because we
are caught up in the hype is not a moving of the Spirit. In fact, hype is
a substitute for a genuine move of the Holy Spirit.
More important, hype quenches the moving of the Spirit! In
other words, the false worship of exaggerated, worldly reveling is hype
– a deception to replace true holy worship and the moving of the Spirit.
And Jimmy Swaggart uses worldly, deceptive hype to please man.
His music over the years has transitioned from gospel to worldly. JSM’s
Spirit of the World
Around
the world, Christians expose Swaggart’s hypocrisy concerning
contemporary Christian music. William
Cook of Truth Life Way Ministries in South Africa writes: For
many years I have listened to Jimmy Swaggart’s music. And yes I still
listen to his music today, but I would like to comment how the standard
has dropped over the years. I was
about 16 years old when I heard the very first sermon preached by Jimmy
Swaggart. But what really caught my interest was his music and the
anointing when he sang those songs. I’m talking about the vinyl LP
records, and then the 8 track-tapes. Afterwards came the 4 track tapes;
then the videos came and in more recent years the DVD’s and CD’s etc.
And all through the years it was always the anointing on Swaggart’s
singing that blessed us. Jimmy
believed that whenever someone can sing a song with an anointing, that
song can draw you closer to Christ. I believed then as I even do today
that the anointed songs and music can draw someone into a saving knowledge
of Jesus Christ. Because I myself have experienced this happen, when
anointed music\singing has drawn or even brought some backslidden person
back to the Lord. Because I am somewhat of a musician and a worship-leader
I know this to be true. Swaggart
himself has through the years been very outspoken concerning this new
style of music called Contemporary Christian Music, because of its worldly
form. And of course because of my background in music, worship and
instruments I can comment on this form of music. And I am not saying all
contemporary music is wrong. There are some very beautiful songs that have
been written. Then there are some that I believe are no-where near to
anything one can call sacred or that even brings honour to our Lord. Some
of these gospel artists like Amy Grant, Sandy Patti, Carman, Michael W
Smith and many others, if you listen to the lyrics of their songs nothing
speaks to want you to believe that they are singing about Christ or even
bringing honour to Him. But as
far as Jimmy Swaggart is concerned that which he has been so outspoken
about over the years has now seemed to have flown out the back door in his
ministry. In comparison to his earlier gospel singers in the genre of John
Starnes, Janet Paschal, Dudley Smith and Thomas Sloan, who were anointed
singers to say the least, because one could see Jesus Christ in them;
looking at the singers Swaggart has employed this past decade one really
can see that the standard has certainly dropped. And I don’t mean these
people are evil in any way, but just listening to the likes of Randy
Knaps, or a Tareva Henderson and Allison Collins-Rhys you realise they
have all brought in that world-like spirit.
Jimmy
Swaggart has certainly allowed the standard of wonderful, anointed music
and singing to be replaced by contemporary gospel music, and
singers\musicians who have obviously brought in the style of singing and
music he has preached against for many years. I mean even Tareva Henderson
in a recent expose’ has admitted that, “I am grateful for the
experience of singing all kinds of music. I've made a living and made
friends around the USA singing country music, R&B and rock music. I'm
singing with some groups that do weddings, festivals and private
events”. Without a doubt I can declare that JSM under the
auspices of Jimmy Swaggart has compromised anointed gospel music for
contemporary Christian music. William
Cook Let
me highlight what William Cook says: “Jimmy Swaggart has certainly allowed the
standard of wonderful, anointed music and singing to be replaced by
contemporary gospel music, and singers\musicians who have obviously
brought in the style of singing and music he has preached against for many
years.” Unquestionably,
performers such as Randy Knaps and Boo Pourciau (former members of the
Louisiana rock band LeRoux) and Tareva Henderson bring the spirit of the
world into the sanctuary. Their
music is of the flesh, not the spirit.
Only these three will be discussed even though there are other
worldly entertainers on the Family Worship Center “stage.” Tareva
Henderson I've
never heard of Tareva Henderson. But
recently, she left JSM and wrote: I
went there [JSM] years ago after the downfall around 2003 only to help my
brother because he told me the music department was in a mess and falling
apart. I had plans to move to Florida so I offered to sub part time and do
some tunes to help because I never get to see my brother. They offered
me a huge salary to take a full time leadership position
over the stage…One time I got ready to sing a song and some of the other
singers walked off of the stage and said they could not worship with a
worldly spirit as mine on the stage…I’m a God loving Christain and
have worked and sang all over this great country of ours from smokey
bars to #1 rated tv shows and have never witnessed such a
cult….I’ve made a living and made friends around the usa singing country
music, R&B and rock music.
(Emphasis added.)
Read the entire e-mail @ http://www.fmh-child.org/TarevaHenderson.html So… 1)
Henderson only went to help her brother because the music department was
in a mess and falling apart? She
offered to “do some tunes”? Listen,
worship music must be sung in the beauty of holiness to be sweet incense
unto the Lord. Give
unto the Lord the glory due unto his name: bring
an offering, and come before him: worship
the Lord in the beauty of holiness. 1
Chronicles 16:29 Carnal
worship – false worship – is not worshipping in the beauty of
holiness. True worship must
be sung by a spirit-filled Christian who has spiritual understanding about
true worship music. 2)
Henderson was offered a full-time position “over the stage”?
A stage is usually referred to as a raised platform for musical,
dramatic and other entertaining performances.
Apparently, Henderson was just entertaining the audience with
tunes. 3)
Henderson has “worked and sang all over this great country of ours from
smokey bars…”? Listen,
why is a professing Christian singing in saloons?
Rev.
W.P. Lovejoy wrote in 1894 in The Mission of the Church: Wherever
the saloon is strong the Church is weak.
The saloon is the enemy of good government and the foe of decent
society. It is the destroyer
of peace in the home, prosperity in the business, harmony in the
community, and of stability in the government.
It fosters and strengthens the worst passions that belong to
humanity. Its effect, if not
its business, is to blight the brightest prospects of young manhood and to
degrade pure and unsullied character to the level of the brute.
It barters beer for brains, wine for wisdom, liquor for immorality,
debauchery, crime, and hell for purity, innocence, and heaven….It steals
the joy from the heart of the devoted wife, and puts in its place pain and
ache and anguish. It shuts
the door of heaven, and opens the gateway to hell.
It is the sum of all iniquities. (Page 219) Tareva,
how can a true believer sing to drunkards in saloons and at the same time
sing unto the Lord in the sanctuary?
4)
Henderson has made a living “singing country music, R&B and rock
music.” Before
working at JSM, Henderson was not a gospel singer.
She made a living singing worldly music in saloons and other
profane places. Unless she
truly desired in her heart to consecrate her talent to the Lord by singing
gospel songs to glorify His Name, her singing at Family Worship Center was
an abomination to the Lord! Randy
Knaps Knaps'
singing style varies. Sometimes
he sings like a lounge singer. And
sometimes he sings like a pop singer.
And sometimes he sings like a rock singer.
His worldly style is no surprise since he was a vocalist with the
Louisiana rock band LeRoux that combined many elements such as
funk,
R&B,
Dixieland jazz, rock, and some Cajun-flavoring.

http://www.laleroux.com/home.html Listen
to Knaps sing “Love's Gotta Hold On Me.” The style is no different
from his singing on SBN…
http://www.laleroux.com/HTMLPages/Discography/aintnothingbutagrisgris.html Why
is Knaps singing at FWC? Did
they offer him a huge salary to entertain on stage? Boo
Pourciau And
there’s the JSM drummer Boo Pourciau who was also with the rock band
LeRoux… By
the time he was 11 years old, Boo was sneaking into bars just to sit
behind a real set of drums. One place that he will always remember was an
old club & restaurant on the bayou called The End of the World, where
they put a microphone in front of him and told him to sing. That's when
the soulful wail began to come out. When Boo reached 14, his career
took off. Performing with a popular group named the Luv Rakers, he toured
with the likes of the Vanilla Fudge, Grass Roots, Zombies, and many other
60s & 70s groups. Through
the years, he has played with local musicians Tereva Henderson, G.G. Shin,
Floyd Brown, Bobby Henderson, Lee Tillman & Reunion, and TK Hullin. He
has also played in groups such as Dixie Jax, Night Timers, Leon Medica
& Friends, The Buddy Roy Band, Tommy French, the late Ronnie Brumbley
& Fox Fire, Tommy Scott, The Factory. The Delta Fright, and Tom Cat. He
also has had the honor to perform with John Fred and The Playboys…

http://www.laleroux.com/HTMLPages/Gallery/Photos/OldSite/booboo.jpg So,
why is Boo working at JSM? Did
they offer him a large salary to entertain on stage? Born Again? The
Lying Lips of Jimmy Swaggart
Finally,
there’s Jimmy Swaggart. Unquestionably, Swaggart is a gifted musician
from a family of great musical talent - his cousins are Jerry
Lee Lewis and Mickey Gilley. JSM
promotes Swaggart’s music as “anointed.”
"Anointed" means set apart and empowered for a particular
work in the service of God. A man who is a-whoring after pornography
and prostitutes has not allowed the Spirit to purify and sanctify him for
holy service. Therefore, he is not anointed and his music cannot be
anointed. Swaggart is a sly businessman. He is a fox who knows how to market his music. Beware of the wolf in sheep’s clothing: a tear in his eye and a tremble in his voice does not mean he is singing under the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
For
example, when
Swaggart sings "Born Again" by Evie he is
singing with lying lips because he is not living a holy life: Born
again, there's really been a change in me
S Lying
lips are an abomination to the Lord. Proverbs
12:22 Undoubtedly,
Swaggart has talent and charisma and his singing is moving, touching,
and emotional. But it is not anointed because you cannot draw
pure water from a polluted well. Out
of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My
brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth
a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? James
3:10,11 Specifically,
out of Swaggart’s mouth proceeded praise to the Lord and propositioning
prostitutes. Out of
Swaggart’s mouth proceeds true doctrine mixed with false doctrine (Gap
Theory, etc.), therefore, his gospel is corrupt.
Jesus warns us: Take
heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. Matthew
16:6 Matthew
Henry comments on this Scripture: Here is the
caution Christ gave them, to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees.
He had now been discoursing with the Pharisees and Sadducees, and saw them
to be men of such a spirit, that it was necessary to caution his disciples
to have nothing to do with them. Disciples are in most danger from
hypocrites; against those that are openly vicious they stand upon their
guard, but against Pharisees, who are great pretenders to devotion, and
Sadducees, who pretend to a free and impartial search after truth, they
commonly lie unguarded: and therefore the caution is doubted, Take
heed, and beware. The corrupt
principles and practices of the Pharisees and Sadducees are compared to
leaven; they were souring, and swelling, and spreading, like leaven; they
fermented wherever they came. http://www.blueletterbible.org/commentaries/comm_view.cfm?AuthorID=4&contentID= And
Jesus warns us in Matthew 7:15, 17,18, 20:
"Beware of false prophets...by their fruits ye shall know
them." Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but
inwardly they are ravening wolves... Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree
bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit; neither can a corrupt tree
bring forth good fruit. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Swaggart
is a corrupt tree bringing forth evil fruit: he refuses to repent for
a-whoring after pornography and prostitutes and markets the gospel for
money. Therefore, Swaggart is a false prophet.
And false prophets cannot be anointed. True
Worship Music Divine music is important in the life of the believer. And one purpose of public worship in hymns and gospel songs is to give glory and honor to the Lord. All worship - private and public - must give true thanks and praise to the Lord, not with lying lips, but from a sanctified heart.
Moreover,
true worship in music helps us experience God’s presence. There
are two types of Christian songs: 1) those written under the inspiration
of the Holy Spirit; and 2) those written to please man and make money. The
first type will always speak to the heart of a true Christian.. Deuteronomy
31 records that God gave Moses a song to teach the children of Israel: 19
Now therefore write ye this song for you, and teach it the children of
Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me
against the children of Israel. 22
Moses therefore wrote this song the same day, and taught it the children
of Israel. Divine
music is inspired by the Holy Spirit.
And in order to be pleasing to God, hymns and gospel songs must be
sung by sanctified believers. Again,
singing to the Lord in place of repentance and sanctification is not only
unacceptable to the Lord God, it is an abomination.
For the Lord hates lying lips. God
hates false worship. He
despises those who sing praises to His name with lying lips and a corrupt
heart. It is an affront to the Lord. It is hypocrisy. In other words, God rejects
worldly praise and worship – false worship. The
Lord God turns a deaf ear to the melodies of false believers and false
worship.
Clearly,
the Bible instructs us in Ephesians 5:18, 19:
but
be filled with the Spirit; singing
and making melody in your heart to the Lord. Matthew
Henry comments on this Scripture: Drunkards
are wont to sing obscene and profane songs. The heathens, in their
Bacchanalia, used to sing hymns to Bacchus, whom they called the god of
wine. Thus they expressed their joy; but the joy of Christians should
express itself in songs of praise to their God. In these they should speak
to themselves in their assemblies and meetings together, for mutual
edification. By psalms may be meant David’s psalms, or such
composures as were fitly sung with musical instruments. By hymns
may be meant such others as were confined to matter of praise, as those of
Zacharias, Simeon, etc. Spiritual songs may contain a greater
variety of matter, doctrinal, prophetical, historical, etc. Observe here,
(1.) The singing of psalms and hymns is a gospel ordinance: it is an
ordinance of God, and appointed for his glory. (2.) Though Christianity is
an enemy to profane mirth, yet it encourages joy and gladness, and the
proper expressions of these in the professors of it. God’s people have
reason to rejoice, and to sing for joy. They are to sing and to make
melody in their hearts; not only with their voices, but with inward
affection, and then their doing this will be as delightful and acceptable
to God as music is to us: and it must be with a design to please him, and
to promote his glory, that we do this; and then it will be done to the
Lord. http://www.blueletterbible.org/commentaries/comm_view.cfm?AuthorID=4& contentID=1777&am p;commInfo=5&topic=Ephesians And
Colossians 3:16 instructs us: Let
the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching
and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing
with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Prayerfully
consider Matthew Henry's comments on
this Scripture: To
teach and admonish one another. This would contribute very much to our
furtherance in all grace; for we sharpen ourselves by quickening others,
and improve our knowledge by communicating it for their edification. We
must admonish one another in psalms and hymns. Observe, Singing of
psalms is a gospel ordinance: psalmois kai hymnois kai oµdais—the
Psalms of David, and spiritual hymns and odes, collected out of the
scripture, and suited to special occasions, instead of their lewd and
profane songs in their idolatrous worship. Religious poesy seems
countenanced by these expressions and is capable of great edification.
But, when we sing psalms, we make no melody unless we sing with grace in
our hearts, unless we are suitably affected with what we sing and go along
in it with true devotion and understanding. Singing of psalms is a
teaching ordinance as well as a praising ordinance; and we are not only to
quicken and encourage ourselves, but to teach and admonish one another,
mutually excite our affections, and convey instructions. http://www.blueletterbible.org/commentaries/comm_view.cfm?AuthorID=

p;commInfo=5&topic=Colossians Unfortunately,
many contemporary “Christian” songs are meaningless, repetitive
babbling. They do not teach
or admonish or edify. Instead they excite us to emotionalism or rebellious
revelry against sacred music. There is no true moving of the Holy Spirit. Furthermore,
the
atmosphere of music “worship” in the modern church is no different
from the atmosphere of a pop or rock concert.
Few understand that leading the congregation in worship in song is
a ministry. True worship in
music is a consecrated ministry and the worship leaders must be
consecrated. In fact, some of the Levities were “instructed in the songs
of the Lord” (1 Chronicles 25:7). However,
many become worship leaders only because they love music in general, not because
they have spiritual understanding of the true ministry of music.
Jesus
declares: God
is a Spirit: and
they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
John 4:24 Because God is a Spirit, only the sanctified spirit of man can truly worship Him.
True and holy worship can only be offered by a sanctified
heart. Profane worship in a church does not mean it is holy.
We must lift up holy hands and
holy hearts unto the Lord. JSM:
A House of Merchandise
Jimmy
Swaggart has condemned contemporary Christian music as entertainment
for years...and now he's promoting it!
Is
he transitioning from gospel to pop/rock to please his family: Frances,
Donnie, or Gabriel? Is
he transitioning to market his church to the world and thereby enlarge his
media church and increase tithes and offerings?
And
we know that Swaggart
uses his TV and radio “ministry” to market JSM: books, DVDs, CDs, and
other merchandise. JSM
heavily promotes music CDs. But
Jesus
openly showed His anger against the merchandisers in the temple. John
2:15,16 records how Jesus made a scourge of cords and drove them out of
the temple. And He poured out their money and overthrew the tables… 15
And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he
drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and
poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the
tables; Christ
cleansed the temple. Clearly,
JSM needs
cleansed. The ministry - including the sanctuary - is not a place for worldly entertainment and amusement. And
JSM's contemporary “Christian” music is the spirit of the world to
attract the worldly. Swaggart and JSM denounce contemporary Christian music as entertainment and at the same time with the same lips sing contemporary Christian music and promote it to sell!
O
ye hypocrites! Jimmy
Swaggart, O Ye Hypocrite! In the video, years
ago, Jimmy Swaggart preached during a crusade… “There
is no such thing as Christian entertainment.” “Hardcore
contemporary Christian music strives to make Christ acceptable to man, rather than man acceptable to Christ. It attempts to lower the Lord Jesus to mankind’s basest level rather than elevating man to Jesus’ level. It is not of God.” But
today
JSM employs profane performers
such as saloon singers, rock musicians and other entertainers
to bring the spirit of the world into the Family Worship Center sanctuary.
Jimmy Swaggart, O ye hypocrite!
